The so-called “Babel” series is a homogeneous group (32cm x 44cm) of ink drawings, mixed technique with gouache and collages. The theme was the multiple aspects of a city, and the amusing encounters of different elements. They were made between 1951 and 1958, after his retum from Italy. This work marks the retum to the reality of Paris, after almost four years abroad. Halfway between a concem for accuracy and realistic stylized reinterpretation, this original series is an unique and valuable document of an era, the 50’s …
